Waiting When It’s Hard

Whether it’s waiting on food to be ready, waiting for a package to come, or waiting on the Lord to move in a mighty way…waiting can be difficult! I have had my fare share of difficult seasons of waiting, and below are a few verses that helped me in those seasons.

Wait for The Lord; be strong, take heart and wait for The Lord

-(Psalm 27:14)

1.) Are you waiting on God to give you peace from haters, false witnesses, and enemies in your life? Well… so did the psalmists in chapter 27. In Psalm 27 verses 11-13 the psalmist asks the Lord to lead him because there are people that are out to get him, and without God he knows he will be lost! In these verses he talks about the false witnesses that have risen up against him; he says that they, “breathe out violence.” But he is not distressed, he writes that he is confident that he will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

The psalmist is saying that despite what it may look like, despite the liars and oppressive foes all around, he knows that God will still be good to him while he is on earth, “in the land of the living.” All we have to do is wait for the Lord’s justice to reign in the situation. That should give us so much peace! Although it seems like we are waiting too long, and our enemy might win…think again, because God always gets the victory!

2.) Are you unsure if God still sees you in your time of waiting? Psalm 33:18-19 says that the eyes of The Lord are on those who revere him and those whose hope is in God’s unfailing love to deliver them from death AND keep them alive in famine. Only God can do this! He can sustain us when we are in physical or spiritual famine; when things seem bleak, God is able to keep us alive! This also means that GOD SEES YOU WHILE YOU ARE WAITING, and he will not forget about you.

We see the verb “wait” in both passages psalm 27 and 33. Psalm 33:20 reads that, “we wait in hope for The Lord…for we trust in His Holy name.” When we trust God fully, we can wait with greater patience and peace. My prayer for us, just like the psalmist’s, is O Lord, “May your unfailing love rest upon us, even as we put our hope in you” -Psalm 33:22

3.) When you wait for something, you are sure that it will eventually come to pass. The psalms don’t say wish or want…they say WAIT. Let us be sure of the fact that we will see God’s goodness in the land of the living (psalm 27:13). Beloved, let’s keep the faith in the only one who can sustain us in famine. Let’s renew our strength in God, and keep trusting in and waiting on the Lord.

Love you! And God loves you so much more!
